RELATE TO MY LIFE

• I like the smell of various perfumes
• Wear it everyday
• I have many perfume bottles at home
• Chose this question because I wanted to know how perfume
• smells nice and how it's related to chemistry.

PRIOR KNOWLEDGE

• Every scent varies
• Different bottle sizes
• Made up of oils,water,etc.

RESEARCH

• Perfume smells by evaporating off skin
• Mixture of essential oils
• Plants are one of largest source of fragrance compounds used in perfume

RESEARCH CONTINUED

• Three part smell.
• (1) top notes -first 15 min of applying
• (2) heart notes - 3 to 4 hours
• (3) base notes - 5 to 8 hours (stick to skin)

• ESSENTIAL OILS: a natural oil typically obtained by distillation and
• having the characteristic fragrance of the plant or other source
• from which it is extracted.
