birth rate and the crude death rate; i.e., annual numbers of births or of deaths per 1,000 population, based on the midyear population estimate. The difference between these two rates is the rate of natural increase (or decrease, if deaths exceed births). Rates of natural increase are a net result of fertility trends, health conditions, and variations in the age composition

Why has the world’s population increased dramatically since 1650?

EXPLAIN THE VALUE OF CALCULATING PHYSIOLOGICAL DENSITY.

Egypt’s physiological density is more than six thousand people per square mile. Unlike Egypt, France has 33.53 percent arable land, and its physiological density is less than one thousand. This statistic also indicates that the lower the physiological density, the easier it is for each nation to feed itself. Humanists are worried about the increasing size of cities, the loss of wilderness, and the decline in rural societies. But the Bible has a different perspective on urbanization and population density. God meant for the earth to be subdued. He provided Israel with walled cities in the Promised Land, and He made provisions to ensure that the land would not return to its wild state (Deut. 7:22). The ultimate destination of His people is not a wilderness but the New Jerusalem, a massive city that will cover some two thousand square miles and be filled with people. The following chapters examine urban areas,
