ANCIENT EGYPT

LANGUAGE

  • Egyptian is the oldest known language in Egypt
  • It is a branch of the Afroasiatic language
  • This language is one of the oldest known languages
  • One form of it is called Middle Egyptian and is written out in mostly hieroglyphics
  • most of the words are only consonants so it is hard to pronounce

CULTURE: FOOD

  • Poor people ate mostly onions and other vegatables
  • Occasionally, they'd eat meats and fowls with beer and bread
  • The upper class Egyptians ate fine meats with wine
  • They'd also eat water fowels along with various fruits and vegatables
  • Egyptians baked, boiled, grilled, fried, stewed or roasted their food

CULTURE: FASHION

  • Clothing for the poor were made up of flax seed
  • Men would wear flax to cover up during work and daily activities
  • Women would often decorate their clothing with small gems or jewles if they could
  • Slaves wore absolutely nothing
  • Royal clothing was made up of wool or linens with gold and gem accessories

CULTURE: TRADITIONS

  • Egyptian traditions consists of sacred rituals to praise their gods and goddesses
  • They would use magic to perform these rituals
  • Egyptians also held hunting races to test young men

[Entertainment]
Story telling holds the title for the best past time for most Egyptians.  Egyptians commonly cannot read and write. Stories were passed orally. They tell popular stories and modify it according to their interests, objective and audiences. For a child to listen to a story, they should tone it down a little bit to digest the story easily.

[Entertainment 2]
Most of the Egyptian elites party through festivals. When they throw a party, everyone invited can eat meat and drink beer at their hearts content. They also served pastries flavored with honey and ancient fruit cakes. 

[ Cities ]
Cities were placed in regions around Egypt.
The regions were called Nomes. The Nomes consisted of the upper, middle and lower class
The main cities were Thebes and Memphis.

[Religion]
The Egyptians were polytheistic. Their gods and goddesses controlled the weather and spiritual lives of the Egyptians. Some of the major gods/goddesses were Ra, the god of the sun, Seth, the god of death and Isis, the goddess of fertility and sister of Seth.
