LEPTOSPIROSIS

WHAT IS IT?

  • A zoonotic bacterial disease
  • Caused by the bacteria of the genus Leptospira

HOW CAN YOU GET IT?

  • Spread through the urine of an infected animal
  • Contaminates water and soil
  • Enters through broken skin and/or mucous membranes

SIGNS AND SYMPTONS

  • Can be asymptomatic
  • High fever
  • Headache
  • Chills
  • Vomiting
  • Jaundice
  • Diarrhea
  • Rash

Risk Of Exposure

  • Most common in temperate or tropical climates

TREATMENT

  • Treated with antibiotics
  • PO and IV
