Lepidtera

  • Lepidtera order include butterflies,moths,and skipper butterflies.
  • A main characteristic of lepidtera is scales on the body and wings,
  • a proboscis, and go through a complete metamorphosis.
  • There are over 174,250 estimated species in the world today.

COLEOPTERA

  • Coleoptera is commonly known as beetles.
  • Characteristics of beetles are two sets of wings,
  • hard exoskeleton, and large jaws.
  • They normally have three segments in their bodies.

HEMIPTERA

  • Often referred to as the true bugs.
  • Includes cicadas,aphids,plant-hoppers,
  • and shield bugs.
  • A common characteristic is the mouth
  • parts where the mandibles are kept and often have a beak.

ORTHOPTERA

  • Orthoptera are paurometabokous.
  • Meaning incomplete metamorphosis.
  • A well known characteristic are the long
  • back legs that allows them to hop.
  • This mainly includes locusts, crickets, and grasshoppers.

BLATTODEA

  • Blattodea simply means cockroach.
  • One of the best known pest species in the world.
  • They are mainly nocturnal, and are the hardiest insects.
  • May be the most primitive living insects.

ODONATA

  • Includes damselflies, and dragonflies.
  • Odonata is the order of carnivorous insects.
  • Dragonflies are stronger fliers than damelflies
  • because of their bigger wings and bodies.

HYMENOPTERA

  • One of the largest orders of insects.
  • Includes sawflies, wasps, bees, and ants.
  • Have stingers for defenses, and make hives or nests.
  • Also have two sets of wings.

DIPTERA

  • Has a secondary set of
  • wings called halters.
  • Flies are the main insect in Diptera.
  • Fly maggots are used for maggot therapy which
  • will then debride necrotic wounds.
