NELSON MANDELA

1918-2013

Nelson Mandela was born on July 18th,1918. He was born at Madiba Clan in the village of Mvezo.

His parents are were Nonqaphi Nosekeni and Nkosi Mphakanyiswa Gadla Mandela. He had 9 sisters and 3 brothers.

He has been married three times. He was married to Evelyn Mas from 1944 to 1958. He was married to Winnie Mandela from 1958 to 1996. He was married to Graca Machel from 1998 to 2013.

His kids are Makaziwe Mandela-Amuah, Zindziswa Mandela, Makgatho Mandela, Zenani Mandela, Madiba Thembekile Mandela, Pumia Makaziwe Mandela, and Makaziwe Mandela.

His mother was the third of Mphakanyiswa four wives, who together bore him 9 daughters and 4 sons. He was the first person in his family to receive a formal education

He was the first black president in South Africa. He was a protestor also had a degree to be a lawyer. He was in the African National Congress.

He was part of the Southern Freedom Movement. He inspired a generation of anti-racist, anti-colonial, and anti-apartheid activists around the world.

He was in the pernicious system of racial oppression. He defended human rights and he fought for equal rights and he never gave up. He made people want to stand up and fight until there were equal rights.

He made people believe that change could happen and that there was a chance.

He was a talisman in the collective struggle against racial oppression.

He was the encouragement of pragmatic and adaptive idealism. He had a belief in inclusivity, non-racialism, reconciliation and a common humanity.

Famous Quote:
"It's always seems impossible until it's done".
Meaning: fighting for your rights would seem like an impossible thing but he got it done and not easily.

He died on Thursday December 5th,2013 at his home in Johannesburg from a lung infection.

ARMED STRUGGLE

SHARPEVILLE MASSCRE:MARCH 21ST, 1960

Cause:
The cause of this event was the anniversary of the anti-pass campaign. Which was where you was trying to pass through without your pass books.

What Happened:
They were stopping people and bus drivers from going on duty. Their objective was to get arrested. They were near the police station and singing songs and chanting. Black protestors were killed by the police.

This event led to Mandela's freedom. This also banned ANC and PAC. Apartheid was also banned. It strengthened them and it had made them want to fight back even harder.

Sixty-nine people were killed and 180 people were seriously injured.
