Calcium was prepared as lime by Romans, but wasn't truly "discovered" and isolated until 1808, when Sir Humphry Davy studied it.

Calcium is an Alkali earth metal, and is most commonly used in fireworks, plastics, rodenticides, torpedoes and flares. Calcium can be found in milk, also.
