IMMIGRATION

Immigration policies have a long and complicated history in the U.S., which date back to the early republic. While America freely and openly encouraged immigration during the eighteenth and nineteenth centuries, after the Civil War, when immigration began to surge, the Supreme Court ruled that the regulation of immigration was a federal responsibility.

The president’s decision to defer the risk of deportation for several million unauthorized immigrants has prompted substantial debate about the scope of the president’s authority. The president unquestionably has broad authority over immigration policy under current law.

The legislative branch over the years has signed laws on immigration. Congress has passed numerous bills regarding U.S. immigration. Some of the bills have benefited or penalized millions of immigrants while private bills have been introduced to benefit one immigrant or one family of immigrants.

The judicial branch hears laws and cases on immigration. Historically, the U.S. Supreme Court has taken a hands-off approach when asked to review the political branches immigration decisions and policymaking.

U.S. Customs and Border Protection (US CBP)

CBP's priority mission is "keeping terrorists and their weapons out of the U.S." It also has a responsibility for securing and facilitating trade and travel while enforcing hundreds of U.S. regulations, including immigration and drug laws.

U.S. Citizenship and Immigration Services (USCIS)

The USCIS is responsible for the administration of immigration and naturalization adjudication functions and establishing immigration services policies and priorities. It is the agency that many immigration lawyers deal with the most.

An interest group is an organization whose members share common concerns, and try to influence government policies that impact those concerns. So their role on immigration is to influence the public wether to agree or disagree on immigration decisions.

Immigration affects Americans in ways such as pay, economics, and also Americas population. It can cause overcrowding in America, smaller pays, and less attention for actual American citizens.

The current status on immigration says that there has been an increase on border security and more high profile guards. It says that immigration will be an issue that will be hard to stop in America.

I believe that immigration needs to be controlled as best as we can, and the only place that can help that is at border security stations.
