Winston Churchill was the prime minister of Britain from 1940-1945, and 1951-1955. He inspired many by his speeches, and being a winner of the Nobel Prize for literature.

Sir Winston Leonard Spencer Churchill was born in 1874 at Blenheim Palace, the oldest son of Lord Randolph Churchill. He is also the grandson of the 7th duke of Malborough. His mother was Jennie Jerome, the American heiress.

Churchill went to school at Harrow Prep School, but didn't apply for college due to poor grades. Instead, he enrolled in Sandhurst in 1893, a military school.

After Sandhurst, he travelled as a journalist in Britain. His first book was published in 1898. In 1990, he joined the House of common as a Conservative. 4 years later, he became a Liberal.

Winston Churchill was in the navy, but saw no real action. Then he started military campaigns. In May 1940, Churchill became Prime Minister of Britain.

As Prime Minister, Winston Churchill kept Britain in high spirits during World War II by not only his speeches, but love for the people.
