JOAN OF ARC

  • Born: January 6th, 1412
  • Died: May 30th, 1431
  • Full name; Jehonne d'Arc

JOAN'S LIFE

  • Joan was born a peasant girl
  • She had her first vision when she was only 12
  • Charles VII allowed Joan to battle against the English
  • She led the French army to victory in the Battle of Orleans
  • In 1430 Joan was captured by the Burgundians and was sold to the English

HOW JOAN GOT INTO THE MILITARY

  • Joan's voices told her to cut her hair short, wear men's clothing
  • and pick up arms to go into battle.
  • She convinced the captain of the Dauphin's forces to let her
  • lead the resistance to the English invasion of France in the
  • Hundred Years War.

JOAN'S CAPTURE

  • She was captured and sold to the English
  • She was tried with witchcraft and Hersey
  • She was also viciously attacked for wearing men's clothing
  • She was convicted after a 14 month interrogation
  • Charles VII would not help save her and she was condemned with death

JOAN'S EXECUTION

  • At the age of 19, on May 30, 1431, Joan of Arc
  • was burned at the stake.
  • After her death, people considered her a saint sent from God himself.
