PRESENTATION OUTLINE

BLACK HISTORY MONTH

Black History Month is an annual celebration of achievements by black Americans. It's a time for recognizing the central role of African Americans in U.S. History.

Carter G. Woodson and Jessie E. Moorland began Black History Month in 1915.

The name of the organization then was called the Association for the Study of Negro Life and History (ASNLH).

Now the organization is called the Association for the Study of African American Life and History (ASALH).

The group (ASALH) sponsored a national Negro History week in 1926.

Black History Month was officially recognized in 1976 by President Gerald R. Ford.
