  • Where did early medieval scholars get their inspiration from?
  • The Bible and from major spokesmen of the early Christian church, such as St. Augustine of Hippo.

WHAT TYPES OF EDUCATIONAL/RELIGIOUS INSTITUTIONS WERE SET UP EUROPE AND HOW WERE THESE INSTITUTIONS STRUCTURED?

  • Cathedral schools and universities were educational/institutions were set up in Europe.
  • Institutions established formal curricula based on Latin.
  • Teaching concentrated on liberal arts, especially literature and philosophy.
  • Students read the bible and church fathers, such as St.Augustine, St. Jerome and St. Ambrose, and classic Latin literature and few works of Plato and Aristotle.
