PH OF URINE

PURPOSE

• Doctors use this test so they can see how basic or acidic your urine is
• Determine the likelihood of kidneystones
• Determine the best medication for you if you have a UTI

PROCEDURE PREP

• Stop taking medications known to affect pH levels
• Do not change your diet unless directed to

PROCEDURE

• You are given a cup, careful not touch the inside
• Careful to not get anything in the cup to contaminate the sample

RESULTS

• 7.0 is a neutral pH level
• The higher the #, the more basic the urine is
• The lower the #, the more acidic it is
• If the # is really high or really low then it could be a # of conditions

FUN FACT

• The average urine sample tests at about 6.0
