A long time ago...
two lovers, Zhinu and Niulang, met and fell in love.

Zhinu, the weaver girl, was the seventh daughter of the Goddess.

Niulang, a cow herder, was a simple mortal.

The lovers married and had two beautiful children...

Like any parent who finds out second hand about her kid eloping- the goddess of heaven was furious!

The lovers were separated by the Goddess, who created a heavenly river.

Once a year on the seventh day of the seventh month, the family could be reunited .
