Color

  • Water is never truly colorless .
  • All water has a slight blue tint to it.
  • The white hazy stuff from faucet water is just dissolved oxygen.
  • Color in water can either be dissolved or suspended components.
  • Highly colored water has significant effects on aquatic life

Dissolved Oxygen

  • Dissolved oxygen is a measure of how much oxygen is dissolved in the water.
  • Dissolved oxygen is crucial for aquatic life.
  • The ratio of oxygen to water molecules is about 10 to 1,000,000
  • Rapidly moving water has more dissolved oxygen than non-moving.
  • Dissolved oxygen in surface water is used by all forms of aquatic life.

Ph

  • PH is a very important measurement in water.
  • PH is a measure of how acidic water is.
  • The PH of water determines its solubility.
  • PH ranges from 0-14, with 7 being neutral.
  • PH also determines whether aquatic life can use that water.
