  • Called the "Cold War" because there was no fighting between militaries
  • Between U.S. and U.S.S.R. (former WWII allies)
  • The anti-Communism remarks of British leader Winston Churchill sparked war

Economic Systems

  • Capitalism: economy in hands of the wealthy
  •                  small group of people have large amount of resources
  • Communism: all resources are distributed among people

  • The Policy of Containment aimed to stop the growth of communism
  • Soviet Union continued to try to expand communism

  • Heated debate between Nixon and Nikita Khrushchev
  • Took place in a model kitchen at a culture fair
  • Nixon believed that the threat of using nuclear missiles could lead to war
  • Khrushchev warned of "very bad consequences"
  • Illustrated the passion behind the cold war
