PRESENTATION OUTLINE

THE BEATLES

BY LEN CONKLETON

The actual year when the Beatles were born was 1957, when John started the group The Blackjacks. At the time, he neither knew any of the other "Beatles" nor played with them.
Most people agree that the Beatles started in 1960, because this is the first time that they were actually called "The Beatles". Before that they went through many names, including The Quarrymen, The Nerk Twins, Long John and the Silver Beetles, The Beat Brothers, and The Silver Beetles. At the time (1960), the members were John Lennon, Paul McCartney, George Harrison, and Pete Best.

well known in Liverpool in 1962 when they made their first nationwide TV appearance (on Thank Your Lucky Stars). They had lucky timing - the appearance was during one of the worst winters in UK history - which meant that they had a huge TV audience, also there was a high percentage of young people in the UK - the babyboomer generation (born in 1946/7 after WW2 finished) were teenagers.

The British Invasion was a phenomenon that occurred in the mid-1960s when rock and pop music acts from the United Kingdom as well as other aspects of British culture, became popular in the United States. The Beatles are a great band because they are a cross over act, they sell millions and millions of records, and they are still influential today
