PRESENTATION OUTLINE
Failure to consider ethics can result in dissatisfied customers, lost sales, or loss of goodwill.
Code of Conduct
- What is the code of conduct for your field?
- What is unacceptable based on that code of conduct?
- Where does your topic fit?
- How do I include an ethics discussion in my research/investigative report?
When confronted with an ethical challenge define the problem and consider the big picture.
To keep an audience safe from potential product dangers, provide clear instructions for use and ensure warnings are clearly stated.
Hold yourself responsible for how well your audience understands the message.
Keeping excellence and ethical behavior includes simple, direct expression of ideas, respect for colleagues' work, and satisfying audience needs.
Research should demonstrate knowledge in the field.
Primary:
you do the research (interviews, surveys, etc.)
Secondary:
someone else does the research
Audience's level of technical knowledge is an important consideration
Writing with research:
- determine objectives
- conduct research to gather data
- rewrite to ensure your goals are successfully met
Use the prewriting stage to help you establish focus for your document.
In the writing stage, organize your report.
In the rewriting stage review material for clarity, delete research that does not support your ideas effectively, and simplify wording.
