Public Companies

  • Traded on the stock exchange
  • Must submit reports to the Security Exchange Commission(SEC) Annual 10-K Quarterly 10-Q
  • Most accessible information

  • Does not sell publicly traded stock
  • Not required to release information to government/general public
  • Have to rely on outside sources for information

Subsidiary Companies

  • Parent company is not required to release information
  • More challenging to find information (may depend on size)

Company website

  • Includes annual report to the SEC: 10-K and annual report to shareholders (more glossy version of 10-K)
  • Also includes other information such as corporate governance and any social responsibility projects
