streams/rivers

  • not many algae and plants that live in rivers
  • trout have stream-lined bodies that help them to swim
  • they adapt to rushing water

ponds/lakes

  • they are shallow to allow sunlight to help plants grow
  • dragonflies,turtles,snails and frogs adapt to the water temperature

marine ecosystems: Intertidal zone

  • barnacles and sea starts cling to rocks
  • clams and crabs burrow in the sand

neritic zone

  • coral reefs provide living homes to a variety of organisms
  • many schools of fish feed on organisms

surface zone

  • algae carries out photosynthesis out of the ocean
  • tuna,swordfish and some whales depend on algae for food

deep ocean zone

  • giant squid have glowing eyes so they can see in the dark
  • most animals feed on the remains of organisms

  • marshes provide food and shelter for many animals
  • including crabs,worms,clams,and fish.
