The first fleet left Portsmouth England on the thirteenth May 1787
1788 it arrived at Botany Bay.

The first fleet is the name given to 11 ships.The first fleet was led by captain Arthur Philip.
How many ships?
The first fleet only had 11 ships each one no larger than a manly ferry. The ships had no more than 1480 men women and children on board together.

The friendship ship
The friendship ship was a convict ship. In 1784 they built it. It had about a crew of 20. The captain was called captain Francis.
Alexander ship
The Alexander ship was the largest ship in the First fleet. This was a convict ship,it carried 192 male convicts.
Charlotte ship
Charlotte carried 88 male convicts and 20 female convicts. Charlotte was built on river Thames by two ladies. In 1784 she was built. Charlotte weighed 350 tons.
Golden grove ship
The golden grove ship was a store away ship. The first fleets chaplain Richard Johnson his wife and his servant travelled to NSW on the Golden Grove. The Golden Grove left Portsmouth on the 13 May 1787. October 2 it took 21 male and 11 female convicts to Norfolk Island.
Scarborough
Scarborough was named after the East Coast of England where it was in 1782. Scarborough had to drop convicts to NSW and come back England where they would put more convicts on it and send it back to NSW.
Borrowdale
The Borrowdale was a fully rigged wooden sailing boat. Its job was a store ship. Borrowdale was fitted out for a transport and for protection 4 guns were installed to keep the passengers safe.
Prince of Wales
With it's royal name prince of Wales the ship was one of the newest vessels in the fleet. The ship weighed 350 tons was 103 ft long and 29 ft wide. The vessel had a poop deck and lots of galleries.
Lady penrhyn
The ship was a convict ship. It carried 101 female convicts and no males.lady penrhyn arrived at port Jackson Sydney Australia. On her returning voyage she was the first European vessel to pass by the kermadel Island.
Fishburn
Fishburn was storage ship.
It was built in the Whitby.
Fishburn was the largest storage ship weighing at 378 tons. Fishburn was built in the 1780's. The master was Robert brown. Fishburn arrived at Botany Bay.
HMS SUPPLY
HMS supply was the oldest and the smallest first fleet ships. HMS supplies job was to bring supplies for the first fleet. HMS supply was built in 1759. HMS supply only weighed 175 tons which was the smallest weight.
