INFINITIVES

  • When you add the word TO along the side of any verb
  • An infinitive may act as nouns, adjectives, and/or adverbs
  • EX. Dance=TO Dance/ TO dance is a wonderful activity

GERUNDS

  • When you add -ing to any verb, you may turn that verb into a noun
  • When the -ing verb functions as a noun, it becomes a gerund
  • EX. Running/Running is good excersise

PARTICIPLES

  • Most verbs when paired with the suffix -ed may become participles
  • Words ending in -t, -en, -ght, or -n are already in participle form
  • Used as adjectives
  • EX. -t built, -ed danced, -en broken, -ght taught, -n worn
  • EX. Broke:Broken The broken window had a sharp edge.

ARTICLES

  • Any of a small set of words or affixes
  • Used with nouns to limit or give definiteness to fhe application
  • The articles are A, AN, and THE
