PRESENTATION OUTLINE
Plate tectonics is the theory that pieces of the earth's lithosphere are in slow constant motion, driven by convection
currents in the mantle.
Rift Valley may be created as a result of a Divergent boundary
Mid-ocean ridges may be formed from a Divergent Plate Boundary.
CONVERGENT PLATE BOUNDARY
Subduction zone: process by which ocean crust sinks beneath a deep ocean trench and back into the mantle.
Deep Ocean Trench: Oceanic crust is formed at an oceanic ridge, while the lithosphere is subducted back into the asthenosphere at trenches.
EXAMPLE OF DEEP OCEAN TRENCH
TRANSFORM PLATE BOUNDARY
- Relative motion is predominantly horizonal
- End abruptly and are connected on both ends to other faults
- Plates slide past each not creating or destroying plates
