CLARA BARTON

She was born in Oxford, Massachusetts on December 25, 1812. She died in Glen Echo, Maryland on April 12, 1912. She worked as a humanitarian, patent clerk, and she became a teacher at age 15. Her full name is Clarissa Harlowe Barton.

Barton was nicknamed "The Angel of the Battlefield" for her work.

Clara Barton worked with a relief organization known as the international American Red Cross during the Franco-Prussian war of 1870-71.
