THE REEVE
BY ADAM POLSLEY
2.
THE REEVE
The Reeve is telling a story about a miller
who steals a lot of grain from his customers.
One day two clerks go to the miller to get some
grain milled. The miller scares the mens horse away
to distract them while he steals their grain.
3.
THE REEVE
The men spend all day looking for their horse
And end up having to spend the night with the miller
and his family. They are all in one room asleep. The clerks are
angry about their grain being stolen and want revenge. One of the clerks
has sex with the millers daughter and the other one takes the cradle
4.
THE REEVE
that is by the millers wifes bed and moves
it by his bed when the wife leaves the room in
the middle of the night. When she returns she gets
in bed with the clerk thinking it is her husbands bed.
Then the clerk has sex with her.
5.
THE REEVE
The miller wakes up in the morning and finds what happened
The clerk and miller get in a fight and the clerk beats the
miller up. The clerks leave and take the grain that was taken
from them with them.
6.
THE REEVE
The Reeve is a person who believes that people
who cheat and steal will have bad things happen to them
7.
THE REEVE
The Reeves story relates
to the other characters we talked
about because the miller is corrupt
and steals from people
8.
THE REEVE
This story is relevant today
because in todays literature and
society people who cheat and steal are
often punished and have bad things happen
to them
9.
THE REEVE
Many people think that the
bad people deserve the bad things
that happen to them
Do you think the miller in the reeves story
deserves what happened to him?
10.
THE REEVE
The Reeves story is a form of romantic
fabliau literature because it is based
on trickery and deception and involves adultery.
