  • Protest on Rosenstrasse
  • The White Rose Protest
  • Operation Valkyrie

PROTEST ON ROSENSTRASSE

  • 1943
  • Jewish men were locked up at an administrative center of Jewish Community
  • Day and night for a week- wives stood in front of Gestapo and demanded release of husbands
  • Gestapo impressed by woman's resilience: "That is German Loyalty"
  • 1,700 Jews saved from deportation

THE WHITE ROSE PROTEST

  • Hans & Sophie Scholl- part of Hitler Youth
  • Determined Hitler was enslaving/destroying Germany- stand up to regime
  • University of Munich- "The White Rose" leaflet (4) and "Leaflets of Resistance" (2)
  • First time dissent against Germany was published

  • February 18, 1943: discovered putting leaflets around University of Munich
  • "What we wrote and said is also believed by many others. They just don't dare to express themselves"
  • Mother tries to enter courtroom
