WHY IT STANDS OUT

• Life was tough during Civil War
• More difficult at home when men are gone
• More responsibilities
• Nationwide catastrophe

HOW THIS CHANGED THE COURSE OF WAR?

• Different roles were played
• More independency
• Economy changed
• Work place changed
• Homes

HOW SOLDIERS/CITIZENS RESPOND

• Women had to deal with home front hardships
• In the war zone civilians would become unwilling
• Citizens and governments would provide comfort and encoragement
• Families would worry about loved ones in war

NORTH

• Iron and coal reached their highest
• Union manufactures grew
• Built homes, spent money
• Women were able to work

SOUTH

• Struggled more
• Difficulties with producing food and goods
• Majority of fighting
• War caused damage

SO WHAT?

• Gives more understanding
• How hard it was
• Gives slight image of experience
