Evidence of patience (Quran)

  • "And endure patiently, your patience is not but from Allah."
  • (16:127)
  • "These will be given their reward twice over, because they are patient.."
  • (28:54)
  • "And be patient. Surely, Allah is with those who are patient." (8:46)

Patience is a gift which all the prophets (alayhum salam) had.

Three types of patience
1. Patience with Ibadah
2. Patience from haram
3. Patience in hardships

#1: With ibadah

  • Doing deeds in accordance to the Sunnah
  • Displaying gratitude while doing them
  • The messengers of Allah displayed this constantly
  • This patience is also when dealing with Muslims

Patience with Ibadah:

"And We certainly sent Nuh to his people, and he remained among them a thousand years minus fifty years, and the flood seized them while they were wrongdoers." (Qur’an 29:14) And the whole while his people just mocked him, but he remained patient until he had permission from Allah to leave the situation.

#2: from haram

  • Abstaining from prohibited acts and from evil
  • Must restrain from the satan (jinn) and satan (human)
  • Great reward will be given on the DOJ through shade

Patience from Haram:

Prophet Yusuf exhibited great patience when the wife of the Azeez tried to seduce him. Instead of doing the pleasing act, Prophet Yusuf chose incarceration for several years rather than committing zinah. This is an action which provides shade on the DOJ.

#3: Patience in hardship

  • Patience without complaint
  • Complete faith and tawakkul in Allah
  • Try to ease hardship
  • Allah will reward you for your patience and efforts

Patience in Hardship: (the Dua of Ayyub)

I praise You, the Lord of lords, Who bestowed His kindness upon me and gave me wealth and children, and there was no corner of my heart that was not filled with attachment to these worldly things, then You took all of that away from me and You emptied my heart, and there is nothing to stand between me and You. If my enemy Iblis knew of this, he would be jealous of me.

We will also all be tested in different ways. But how will we react?
