King Proteus was furious with Bellerophon , the son of King Iobates. King Proteus

Bellerophon went to Lycia and found much fear and sadness. The Chimera, an animal with the head of a lion, tail of a snake , and a body of a goat kept on attacking the city.

Iobates wanted Bellerophon dead without blame being placed upon himself so he sent Bellerophon to kill the Chimera.

Bellerophon was glad to help the town and see the fear and sadness gone. He willingly and courageously went to fight the beastly chimera.

Bellerophon went to Athena, the goddess of wisdom, war,and art, to offer her gifts.

Athena visited Bellerophon during his sleep and gave him the power to possess the Pegasus.
