EARLY LIFE

  • Born in Pittsburgh, PA on August 6, 1928
  • Parents emigrated to America from Slovakia
  • Love of art developed from constantly being sick and bedridden
  • Studied commercial art at the Carnegie Institute of Technology
  • Also received a BA in pictorial design

CAREER

  • Founded Interview magazine in the 70's
  • Central figure in the Factory
  • Most iconic artist of the pop art movement
  • Published several books
  • Managed many galleries

One idea he expressed in a book was, "Making money is art, and working is art and good business is the best art."
