Charles Manson

Charles Manson

  • A cult leader, his followers carried out murders in late 1960s.
  • He inspired the book "Helter Skelter".
  • His cult is thought to have carried out some 35 killings.
  • married a 26 year old at the age of 80.

Sentences

  • Most members were never tried either for lack of evidence or because the perpetrators were already sentenced for life.
  • On January 25, 1971, he was convicted of first degree murder. He was sentenced to death but was commuted to life in prison.

past life

  • He was born Charles Miles Maddox in Ohio, On November 12, in 1939.
  • His 16 year old mother, Kathleen Manson, was an alcoholic and prostitute. After her marriage failed, she left the kids, and Charles was getting through by petty crime.

A new chapter

  • in 1955 Charles married a 17 year old girl, and moved to California.
  • She became pregnant, and Manson pursued a life of crime again.
  • It wasn't long before he was back behind bars, she left him, and he got another woman pregnant later, while out on probation.
