INFLUENZA

A CHRONIC RESPIRATORY ILLNESS MOST COMMONLY CALLED "THE FLU"

CAUSES

  • Touching contaminated surface then touching face
  • Mainly spread person to person through coughing & sneezing
  • Types of viruses is A, B, & C
  • Type A & B flu viruses are responsible for seasonal outbreaks of flu
  • Type A is found in animals, type B is widely only among humans

SIGNS/SYMPTOMS

  • Runny nose, sore throat, sneezing
  • Fever or chills
  • Dry cough, muscle pain, fatigue
  • Anorexia (loss of appetite)
  • Diarrhea & vomiting

COMPLICATIONS

  • Bacterial pneumonia, ear infections, sinus infections
  • Dehydration, worsen of chronic medical conditions
  • Such as congestion heart failure, asthma &diabetes
  • Pregnant women & young children
  • People 65 years or older with medical condition

TREATMENT

  • Getting vaccinated each year with flu shot
  • Avoid close contact who's sick,touching face, smoking & tobacco use
  • Stay home when sick, cover mouth & nose when coughing & sneezing
  • Wash hands, get plenty of rest and drink plenty of fluid
  • Use aspirin/ibuprofen help treat fever, headaches & muscleaches
