AMEDEO AVOGADRO

BY THOMAS COLE

AVOGADRO'S BACKGROUND INFORMATION

  • Avogadro was born on august 9th 1776 in Turin Italy
  • His father, Count Filippo Avogadro, was a lawer
  • When he was 20 he got his doctorate in law and became a lawer
  • His full name is Lorenzo Romano Amedeo Carlo Avogadro di Quaregna e di Cerreto

START OF HIS CAREER AS A SCIENTIST

  • In 1809 he left the law field to teach physics and mathmatics at liceo highschool
  • In 1811 he theorized that equal volumes of gases at the same
  • temp and pressure contain equal number of molecules
  • He also cleverly reasoned that simple gases were not formed of solitary atoms
  • But were instead compound molecules of two or more atoms.

SCIENCE CAREER CONT.

  • He was appointed as the professor of mathamatical physics
  • At the university of turin in 1820.
  • In 1822 political turmoil suppressed the chair and he lost his job
  • The post was reestablished in 1832
  • In 1834 avogadro returned to his position untill his retirement in 1850

HIS FINDING

  • His findings were neglected until they were presented by stanislo cannizarro
  • ( an italian chemist), at the karlsruhe conference in 1860
  • Avogadros number for how many molecules in a mole actually wasnt discovered by himself
  • It was given his name for his major contribution to the development of molecular theory.

HIS DEATH AND CONTRIBUTION TO THE WORLD

  • Avogadro died on july 9th 1856
  • His contributions didnt effect me but effected the science world majorly
  • IF Avogadro never found these things out then many things in science wouldnt be known
