Creative Commons

• Creative Commons allows the owner to share their work with people on their terms without having to speak with each person interested in their work.

6 Different CC Licenses

• Attribution -- others must credit owner **attribution applies to all CC licenses
• ShareAlike -- if changes are made to the original work the same licenses will be used on the updated version (always on the owners terms)
• No Derivatives -- others may not make changes to the original work without persmission

• Noncommercial -- others cannot get paid for your work
• Noncommercial ShareAlike -- others may not get paid for work and must use the same licenses as orginal work
• Noncommercial No Derivatives -- others may not get paid for work and have permission before making any changes to the original work.

CC vs. Copyright & Fair Use

• Copyright and Fair Use are much more confining than Creative Commons (CC). Although they are different the three do share some of the same ideas. CC, like Copyright and fair use, requires credit to be given to the owner.

CC vs. Copyright & Fair Use

• Copyright and fair use requires users to have individual permission to use someones work. Creative Commons allows all users to use others work as long as they abide by their owners rules. CC, Copyright, and Fair Use does not allow users to make a profit on owners work unless a given permission, which usually requires a contract.

Creative Commons, Copyright, and Fair use are there to protect the creators. Creative Commons allows the owners and users a little more freedom than Copyright and Fair Use.
