CANADA NORTHERN REGION

Population

The population is really small for the largest region for the land area. There are about100,000 people that live in the northern region. The land is really big. But one problem,there are only a few roads. Plus it is far from other places.

Languages

Some Canadian people speak English as their main language, but will also speak French. The remaining Canadians speak French as their main language but can understand some English. You need to be able to understand and speak French to get a job.

Climate

The climate in the Northern Region is subarctic. The temperature in July averages 57f. Much of this area is a treeless tundra.

Buildings

The word igloo means house. Houses can also be made with other materials such as stone, sod, or wood. Today, most Inuit have houses made from kits. Inuit live in widely scattered villages along the Arctic ocean or Hudson Bay.

Economic Activity

In the northern regions Canadians mostly settle in small villages. They get food from hunting and brought goods. These Goods are shipped by boat or plane. The people of the northern region work with the government by making a living and by also working for churches,
or mining for compaines.
