MONARCHY

  • King ruled
  • Corinth and Thebes were a monarchy
  • Royal family decided what goes

MONARCHY

  • Royal family only participated
  • The people had no power so it was disliked
  • They rebelled

ARITOCRACY

  • Power in the hands of a hereditary or nobility.
  • Examples are Athens (6 - 8)
  • Ran by the higher class

ARISTOCRACY

  • Intelligent males and wealthy people could participate
  • Lower class had no power
  • They rebelled

OLIGARCHY

  • Controlled by a few people
  • Sparta was ruled by an oligarchy
  • The upper class could make decisions

OLIGARCHY

  • The rich and wealthy could participate
  • Wealthy people loved this gov.
  • Lower class hated it.

TYRANNY

  • Powerful individuals seized control by appealing to people.
  • Corinth and Argos are examples of a Tyranny

TYRANNY

  • One tyrant ruled but sometimes needed help
  • The King and wealthy class made laws.
  • They didn't like this form of government
  • They did indeed rebell

DEMOCRACY

  • A gov. controlled by its citizens.
  • Athens (550 to 500 B.C.) were a democracy

DEMOCRACY

  • The citizens decided what goes
  • Every citizen (18 and above) could participate.
  • They loved this gov. because they did what they wanted to do.
