There are both good and bad types of bacteria, the bad try to infiltrate our immune system and use us as a host to survive, and the good bacteria helps get rid of the bad.

GOOD BACTERIA

Probiotics are bacteria that help maintain the natural balance of organisms. They reduce the growth of bad bacteria, and help with your digestive system.

EXAMPLES

Normal flora
found mostly in large intestine (also in other parts of the body). They protect us from disease by, competing with invaders, lower ph levels, and by producing bacteriocins.

Bacillus coagulans
Promotes gut flora, helps with digestive problems, irritable bowel syndrome, fighting off unwanted bacteria, and diarrhea.

Saccharomyces boulardii
Is used for diarrhea prevention, digestion problems, irritable bowel syndrome, lyme disease, and prevention of HIV (associated with diarrhea).

BAD BACTERIA

EXAMPLES

Escherichia coli
Can cause food poisoning when it mutates. It is originally flora but can change into E. Coli.

Mycobacterium Tuberculosis -
A bacteria that causes Tuberculosis (a sickness that attacks the lungs causing sneeze and coughing fits)

Treponema pallidum
A bacteria that can cause syphilis, bejel, pinta and yaws.

Clostridium botulinum
Produces exotoxins (most common is neurotoxins). Can cause flaccid muscular paralysis (botulism).
