FEDERALIST 51
2.
SUMMARY
3.
MADISONS VEIWS
Madison believes in limited government, where the government has as much
power the people delegate them to have.
Government exists to protect the rights given to the people with Constitution with their limited power.
4.
THESIS
The only answer that can be given is, that as all these exterior provisions are found to be inadequate
the defect must be supplied, by so contriving the interior structure of the government as that its several
constituent parts may, by their mutual relations, be the means of keeping each other in their proper
Places

"IF MEN WERE ANGELS, NO GOV WOULD BE NECESSARY"
6.
HOW THE CONSTITUTION PROTECTS BALENCE OF POWER
7.
LEGESLATIVE BRANCH
According to Madison, The legislative branch is the strongest because it predominates in a republican
government. The remedy is to divide the legislative into many different branches, "by different modes of
election and different principles of action."
8.
RIGHTS OF THE MINORITY
1. Creating a will in the community independent of the majority--that is, of the
society itself
2. Comprehending in the society so many separate descriptions of citizens as will render an unjust
combination of a majority of the whole very improbable, if not impracticable (exemplified in the federal republic)
(too broken down to form a majority)
