PROTESTING LED BY DR. KING.
"And that’s all this whole thing is about. We aren’t engaged in any negative protest and in any negative arguments with anybody. We are saying that we are determined to be men. We are determined to be people. We are saying that we are God’s children. And that we don’t have to live like we are forced to live." Martin King
Another quote that convey the personality of the man who seek truth and justice and bravery, Dr. King.
"Another thing that we had to get over was the fact that the nonviolent resister does not seek to humiliate or defeat the opponent but to win his friendship and understanding."
The quote represents what a wise man he is because he did not seek humiliation of opponents, instead seek friendships and understanding.
There are many great leaders but Martin Luther King is best suited to be on the 20 dollar bill because of his boldness and righteousness that transformed the perspective of segregation during the Civil Rights Movement. If it was not for Dr. King's bravery, who know, segregation base on race would still be a big issue today. Also, his righteousness was what brought new light to not only U.S.A but across the seas as well.
Although we know this brave man as Martin Luther King, his birth name was Michael King. He was born in Atlanta, Georgia on January 15, 1929. His beloved parents were Alberta William King and Michael King Sr. His father change his and his son's name from Michael to Martin Luther. ( Martin Luther King Jr. Facts, The Norwegian Institute) Not as many people would expect that Dr. King attempted to suicide! This was because of his grandmother's death. He had a very good relationship with his grandmother, therefore it was a very rough time for him.
(Autobiography of Religious Development
As a kid, Dr. King had a very loving family. His father was strongly against segregation not because he was black but because he believed that God did not want people to be segregated. That was what Dr. King's father taught him as he grew up and never to feel superiority. This was what made Dr. King to have courage to fight with his mind, heart and words with no fear during Civil Rights Movement.
Dr. King grew up to be a fine and diligent man. He became assistant pastor at Ebenezer Baptist Church in February of 1948. He also started getting involved in politics.
In 1963, about 250,000 protestors met at Abraham Lincoln Memorial. That was where he gave his speech called " I Have A Dream." As his nonviolent movement expanded, haters also increased. Especially his book called " The Stride Toward Freedom" from 1958 made Izola Ware Curry stabbed him. ( An Autobiography of Religious Development) In 1964, he won the Nobel Peace Prize which proved that his work was honored across the world. Sadly, he was assassinated in April 1968 by a white racist. Although Dr. King left early, he was a man who inspired many generations to stand strongly in what you believe in and fight, not with violence but with your heart and mind.
