Federal Emergency Relief Administration (FERA)

ESTABLISHED DATE: 1932

WHY IT WAS CREATED:

  • Gave money loans,to state that needed to make relief programs.
  • It is a new deal government-spending program .
  • To give direct cash assistance to the impoverished and the poor.

WHO DID IT AFFECT:

  • It affected the society.
  • FERA provided state assistance for the unemployed and their families.
  • FERA provided work for over 20 million people and developed facilities on public lands across the country.
  • It benefit mens should be put to work and not be given charity.

WAS IT SUCCESSFUL?

  • Yes it was it created jobs for the unskilled workers.
  • In that is provided much needed emergency funds to those that were unemployed.
  • it kept many families together when coupled with other programs for clothes, medical services.
  • Many families survived until regular employment opportunities became available.

IS IT STILL AROUND TODAY?

  • No, when Congress passed the Social Security Act of 1935.
  • Emergency Relief Act, passed at the outset of the New Deal by Congress.
