NATURAL SELECTION

  • Natural selection occurs in every organism
  • It begins with a mutation
  • If the mutation favors the organism, it will be able to reproduce
  • Eventually this mutation will be relied on
  • When it is adopted by the general population, it becomes a trait

HOW SUPERBACTERIA FORMS

  • The bacteria develops a mutation that is resistant to an antibiotic
  • This bacteria is not wiped out due to improper usage of antibiotics
  • It multiplies so every bacteria of its kind has this resistance
  • One of these already resistant bacteria develops a new mutation
  • The process repeats

HOW YOU CAN PREVENT IT

  • Use antibiotics thoroughly
  • 1. This prevents the multiplying of resistant bacteria by eliminating every specimen
  • Wash hands thoroughly
  • 1. This also prevents the multiplying of resistant bacteria

COMMON MISCONCEPTIONS

  • If I feel fine, all the bacteria are gone
  • 1. When using antibiotics, use exactly as prescribed; even the length
  • Hand wipes and hand sanitizer kill all the germs
  • 1. They only wipe out 99.9% of bacteria
  • 2.This leaves .1% left to multiply
