WHAT WAS THE SOCIAL STRUCTURE LIKE?

  • The society of the Mughal period can roughly be categorized into the rich, middle and poor class.
  • The difference between the richest sections of society and the poorest was very wide.
  • At the top of the social and economic ladder was the king followed by his nobles.
  • This class lived in extraordinary luxury with abundant resources at their disposal. They lived a life of reckless festivity, grand banquets, lavish homes and often had inflated egos.

WHAT WAS THE FAMILY STRUCTURE LIKE?

  • Mughal emperors were keen patrons of education, and there was considerable development in this area.
  • In fact one of the duties of the public works department. Shah Jahan although more interested in building monuments, did take some significant educational initiatives like providing scholarships to assist students.
  • Female education also existed in some form during the Mughal period
  • Girls from rich families were usually able to have an education, through private tuitions at home

WHAT WAS THE ROLE OF WOMAN?

  • The women's marital role during the Mughal Empire was to provide political advice to their men and also maintain the presents given to them during their marriage.
  • The women were also supposed to be of service to their husbands and went as far as fighting for them.
  • They were treated fairly but did not receive the same treatment as the men did.

ACCOMPLISHMENTS

WHAT WERE THE MAJOR ACCOMPLISHMENTS.

During the reign of the Mughal Empire, there were many achievements, changes and influences. Some major achievements including the success and advancing of Science and Astronomy in the Mughal Empire, under Emperor Humayun-The flourishing of art, such as calligraphy-The great architectural developments and achievements (eg. The building of the Taj Mahal, Badshahi Mosque, Agra Fortress,Lahore Fortress etc.)-Music and literature became famous and widespread (eg.Sufi music was quite popular and well-known)system.
