When Nelson Mandela got released from prison, in 1990, Mandela immersed himself into bringing peace to South Africa’s Black majority, by offering forgiveness to the white goverment, who sent him to prison.
In 2004, Mayor of London Ken Livingstone publicly pledged his support for a statue of Nelson Mandela.
Mandela orchestrated a three-day national workers' strike. He was arrested for leading the strike the following year, and was sentenced to five years in prison. In 1963, Mandela was brought to trial again. This time, he and 10 other ANC leaders were sentenced to life imprisonment for political offenses, including treason, and sabotage"
In 1994 Nelson Mandela was elected president in South Africa's first democratic elections he served one five year term, before retiring.
Nelson Mandela was born July 18, 1918. His great grandfather was a king of the Thembu people. His father was a village chief, and died when Nelson was nine.
He died on December 5, 2013, at the age of 95 from respiratory infection which could be caused from the tuberculosis he got while in prison.
