PROCESS OF DIAMOND FORMATION ON SATURN

  • Saturns atmosphere is partly made of methane.
  • When lightning strikes the methane it turns the gas into carbon.
  • Black carbon clouds rain down towards the core forming graphite.
  • Intense pressure from the atmosphere pushes the graphite towards the core.
  • Diamonds begin to form, but eventually melt from the high temperatures.

FUTURE PLANS

  • Scientists plan to send probes and drones to mine for diamonds on Saturn
  • Many tools (sergical tools) involve diamonds in the process of making them.
  • Getting more diamonds, leads to making more tools that can help improve peoples health.
