What can we do with geography?

When doing Cross Country

  • You run long distances, so it is easier to get lost
  • You need to know what kind of terrain your race is on (rocky, hills)
  • You can use maps to figure out how far away from the finish you are

Natural Disasters

  • You can use geography to figure out on a map where they normally occur
  • You can try to predict where the next one will happen and how to prepare
  • You will know how many people will be affected by it the next time

Meteorologist

  • Different areas have different climates, you'll use geography then
  • You need to figure out what places normally have what temperatures
  • If there was a storm coming, you would know where it would hit

Farming

  • You would use it to find where a good place to plant was
  • You would know if you were in a place where storms happen often
  • Helps you to know what the weather will be like for your crops

Travelling

  • Can help you understand the culture of another country
  • You can use maps to find out where you are and how much farther you have
  • Help you find landmarks to visit
  • Know what kind of animals live there if there are any dangerous ones

At any busy place or area

  • People often get separated in busy areas, like theme parks
  • If you have a map or GPS, you can find your way easily
  • Use landmarks to find a meeting place where you can go

Tracing History/Family Tree

  • You would need to know where the person came from
  • Often, the location matters a lot because where you live affects culture
  • You would know where your origins are from
