THE BENEVOLENT ASSIMILATION PROCLAMATION

  • President Mckinkey - Whos approach or proclamation might offend the filipinos
  • General Elwell otis - Changed the proclamation,soften the words of the said proclamtion to not offend the filipinos

FILIPINOS REACTION TO THE PROCLAMATION

  • General marcus p. miller - published the original text of the proclamation
  • Antonio Luna - Editor of "the independence" attacked the proclmation
  • Emilio Aguinaldo - Said that hostilities are not welcome in the philippine goverment

Attempts to relax the tension:

Aguinaldo tried his best to relax the filipino-american tension.the conference began january 9 and continued up to january 29

The shot that started the war:

Incident followed incident which led to the outbreak of the hostilities on feb.1 a group of americans was surrounded by the filipino troops. The following day, otis filed a protest with aguinaldo. The latter replied that the five americans were not arrested but detained.

Captain Fernando grey wired malolos saying that the americans had started the hostilities on feb.7, buencamino asked secretary of war baldomero aguinaldo for information regaarding the incident

American drive to the North:

In the late february & early march american reinforcements arrived from the united states in quingua(plaridel) on april 23,the american cavalry under major Bell suffered a defeat in the hands of Gregorio del pilar
