PURPOSE

  • Observe the effect of vinegar, corn syrup, and water on an egg.
  • Relate this to osmosis in cells.

MATERIALS

  • Eggs
  • 2 beakers
  • Vinegar
  • Corn syrup
  • Water
  • Triple beam balance
  • Measuring tape

HYPOTHESIS

I think the egg in the water will stay the same and the egg in the corn syrup will increase

DAY 1 MEASURMENT

  • Egg in vinegar
  • Mass 58.7 g
  • Circumference 14cm

DAY 1 QUESTIONS

  • Remove the egg from the outer shell
  • The shell will dissolve and become soft

OBSERVATIONS DAY 2

  • The egg was put into water
  • Mass 58.3g
  • Circumference 14cm

DAY 2 QUESTIONS

  • It increased because the vinegar absorbed into the egg
  • I think the egg will stay the same
  • I think the egg will get smaller

Data table

OBSERVATION DAY 3

  • The egg in beaker 1 will increases the water went inside
  • The egg in beaker 2 got smaller because the water went outside
  • Osmosis means delusion of water

EXTRA CREDIT

  • It is made of millions of smaller molecules that create a flexible and porous container. Proteins and phospholipid make up most of the membrane structure
  • 2 small and non polar hydrophobic molecules can freely pass through the membrane
