First use of the word "hieroglyphics" was in 1586
The eye of Horus is very famous
The Rosetta Stone was found in 1799-used to crack hieroglyphics
A single picture can stand for a whole word

Used on tablets, temple walls, and papyrus reed
Mainly used to make lists of workers or supplies for making a pyramid
Scribes and priests did most of the writing
Did this because most people in Ancient Egypt couldn't read or write

_About the word "Hieroglyphics"_
The word comes from two Greek words meaning "sacred writing". This came from the Egyptians own word meaning "divine speech".
