WHY ITS AN ISSUE TODAY

  • Concussions are very dangerous and can cause permeant brain damage
  • 5.3 million Americans live with traumatic brain injury-related disability
  • Many people do not think they are real or an issue
  • They may not be visible but they are there
  • 3,800,000 concussions were reported in 2012,about double in 2002

HOW WE AS A COMMUNITY CAN SOLVE IT

  • Providing the right equiptment for our athletes
  • Having concussion seminars
  • Educating the youth and youths parents
  • Having specialized doctors a phone call away
  • Know how to handle them when you get concussed

THE DYLAN STEIGER ACT

  • Dylan steigers protection of youth athletes act
  • Died may 9th,2010 after suffering a traumatic brain injury
  • Provides a resource for parents,coaches,and athletes
  • Clearly states that schools are required to inform teachers,parents and students

MORE STATISTICS

  • 33% of concussions happen at sports lractice without being reported
  • 39% leading to permanent neurologic disability
  • 47% of reported concussions happen during high school football games
  • 1 in 5 high school athletes will substain a sports related concussion
  • 90% of most diagnosed concussions doesn't involve loss of consciousness
