BIOTECHNOLOGY

WHAT IS STEM CELL RESEARCH

  • The research of stem cells.
  • Stem cells are Cells with the ability to divide for indefinite periods in culture.
  • They also aid specialized cells.

What is The purpose of Stem Cell Research Stem cells are undifferentiated cells in a developing fetus. They are researched to see if stem cells can be used to repair damaged parts of the human body.

WHAT DO WE USE STEM CELLS FOR TODAY?

  • We use stem cells to find out advancments and or new medical treatments.
  • They help doctors and scientist understand how diseases occur.
  • They are used for regenerative medicine or medicine that helps replenish your
  • Bodies good cells.

WHAT IS CLONING

  • propagate (an organism or cell) as a clone.
  • Clones are organisms that are exact genetic copies.
  • Clones can happen naturally—identical twins are just one of many examples.

WHAT IS THE PURPOSE OF CLONING

  • Cloning for medical purposes has the potential to benefit large numbers of people.
  • Cloning could help reduce the time needed to make a transgenic animal model,
  • and the result would be a population of genetically identical animals for study
  • Cloning good stem cells to help the body repair.

WHAT IS CLONING USED FOR TODAY?

  • Scientist clone specimen to access more time they can have with an experiment.
  • Scientists are starting to clone good stem cells to cure patients, and specimens.
  • Also to revive and or prevent animal species from going extinct.

WHAT IS RECOMBINANT DNA

  • DNA that has been formed artificially by .
  • combining constituents from different organisms
  • There are three different methods by which rDNA is made.
  • Transformation
  • Non-bacterial transformation, and phage intro

WHAT IS THE PURPOSE OF RECOMBINANT DNA

  • To take foreign DNA and insert it into another organisms genetic material.
  • Recombinant DNA is when you combine DNA together that normally would not be found together.
  • Many vaccines have been invented through rDNA.

WHAT DO WE USE RECOMBINANT DNA?

  • Farmers use rDNA to keep their plants from dying by insects.
  • rDNA is used to make bioplastics by maintaining organic material with rDNA
  • By inducing the disease in animals, which calls for rDNA technology,
  • it allows doctors to study the effects on a faster time table and apply those findings to human research.
